Unwind the clock of modern life. Unlock the door to a wonder of the world.
Tanjung Bira is a traditional fishing village that is well known for its beautiful white sand beaches. Although the village is small, you can find small hotels, local accommodations and small restaurants and still enjoy the village as it is not crowded on most days. Because of that, Tanjung Bira is a perfect escape place to seek peace and quietness. There are several white sand beaches to visit, most favorite among locals are Tanjung Bira Beach and Bara Beach that stretches 2km long.
For scuba diving and snorkeling enthusiasts, Liukang Loe Island and Kambing Island are the main destinations. When the weather is good (east wind) the ocean around diving/snorkeling spots becomes very calm; giving you crystal clear water with beautiful marine life. Best time to visit: June-September.
Besides beaches, you can also visit Phinisi making village in Tanah Beru and Ara. The traditional sailing vessel will amaze you by its craftmanship and beauty. These days Phinisi is widely used as luxury cruise ship, especially around the eastern part of Indonesia.
Another place of interest is, Ammatoa, an indigenous village in Tana Toa village. When you step into the village you will notice the unique life of Kajang tribe who lives traditional life without electricity and wearing all-black attire. The black attire is part of their life philosophy to symbolize the darkness in mother womb as a place where we came, and darkness of tomb where we will rest. Make sure to travel with a guide to help you with the local custom and rules of visiting as the place is considered sacred.
